The Black Eyed Peas Peapod Foundation and the Adobe Foundation have teamed up to launch a Peapod Adobe Youth Voices academy in New York City offering access to multimedia technology for the arts, including dance, to underserved youth. Previous successful efforts have paved the way in Oakland, LA and Redwood City, California.

The new academy will be based in a facility maintained by Urban Arts Partnership and will feature a curriculum developed by Adobe Youth Voices. Software company Adobe is providing the multimedia software and the Peapod Foundation is providing a well-stocked recording facility.

Over 1000 teens have participated so far in the academies and the next site is planned to open in San Jose later this year. While such experiences can be empowering for youth who go on to careers in other fields, it will be interesting to see who comes out of these programs and goes on to have a career in the arts.
